I found this beautiful lace/sequin dress in Topshop online.
I have recreated this lace design in Illustrator using a seamless all over lace bitmap which I will make available in my download section.
As a bitmap file, you can easily recolor the lace pattern in Illustrator and then drag to the swatch palette to fill you fashion design with your desired lace color.
To recreate the sequin design I created a seamless pattern. To create a sequin make a circle and then with this circle selected double-click on the scale tool in your Illustrator tool box. Insert 20% in the uniform box and click on copy. A 2nd dot will appear aligned in the center. To create a “hole” select both circles and go to menu Object>Compound Path.
Create a scattered pattern with the sequins. When you have a pattern, create a gradient pattern and with all circles selected, drag your cursor over (I dragged from left top corner to right bottom corner).
In making sure your lace design pattern is seamless you must make sure the sequins that are on the edge of your pattern, you must copy and paste the same degrees of color once again to repeat. In the above illustration you can see the colors within the circles on the opposite side of the square are not the same. Replace one side with the same circles on the other side as shown by selecting the top circles and going to menu Object>Transform>Move, insert the vertical measurement of your box and copy.
With an empty box behind your sequin to define the pattern, you can now select all and drag into your swatch palette.
In the newer versions of Illustrator you can include gradients in your pattern (I believe this started with CS5). But for those of you with earlier versions, you must expand the gradient before creating a pattern.Select all circles and go to menu Object>Expand. Select fill and you should get an expanded gradient as shown below.
On your dress which is filled with your lace pattern copy and paste in front the same sections and fill with the sequins and reduce to desired size.
